Thursday July 10, Dagmar Thurmond of the Alabama Forestry Service will speak to kids Kindergarten and up about The Pollinators. She did a great job today, with just the right amount of science and fun.

Preschoolers who attended today’s Catch the Reading Bug program had a great time ‘pollinating’ flowers with pink and orange glitter. Each little reader received pipe cleaner antennae to wear. This was a big hit! Then the children buzzed over to select a bug sticker, select a flower sticker and transfer the glitter ’pollen’ brushed on them along the way to the flower they took with them.

The children were wonderfully behaved and had a great time, and we really appreciate Dagmar’s time and wonderful presentation. We finished up with goody bags full of informative coloring pages and information about Alabama’s beautiful parks and forests. Dagmar even had a few educational and VERY beautiful posters to send home with the teachers from the preschools that attended.

Thursday, the educational giveaway prizes promise to be even more exciting and interesting. Whether you are a parent or a child care agency/school, please bring your school aged children to Governor’s Square Branch Library for this great program.
