The Montgomery City County Public Library is always in need of talented and dependable volunteers. Branch heads coordinate volunteer activities at individual branches. Contact the head of your nearest branch to tell them what skills you can offer and find out what work the branch needs! Here at Governor’s Square the phone number is 334-284-7929, or stop by.

I asked my most recent volunteer, a student from BrewTech fulfilling her community service requirement, to do a brief writeup of her recent volunteer experience here at Governor’s Square. She helped us create packets for our summer children’s programming, checked our shelves for noncirculating items, helped process in new books, and wrote a book review.

Here are her remarks.

“Volunteering at the Governor Square library wasn’t half bad.  Mrs. Owens, the volunteer coordinator was really nice and helpful. You felt right at home.  When I first arrived she showed me about he library and told me a bunch of facts that dealt with books, how the library is founded and ideas she has that would better the library.

After that she, she gave me a list of books that haven’t been checked out for five years. All I basically did was wrote down wither there were on the shelf or not.  It wasn’t hard, but it takes up time and kept me occupied.  It was kind of interesting look at all the books, and how people just look over them.

My time at the library was relaxing and interesting. I would, and going to volunteer there again.”

Relaxing? We like to think the library is not too far behind the Army as the toughest job you’ll ever love, but I’m glad our volunteer enjoyed it. I invite older students and other Montgomery residents to come and volunteer at Governor’s Square.

  • Fulfil community service hour requirements
  • learn about public libraries
  • build or give back to our community
  • earn good references for resumes, job applications, and college applications.
